About this Item

2007 Pillars
6 (1 x 6) 750ml

Haskell Vineyards graces the slopes of the Helderberg mountain range in Stellenbosch, an area known as the “Golden Triangle”, widely recognized as one of South Africa’s finest wine-growing sub-regions and home to many of South Africa’s top wines.

In 2002, American/Russian property tycoon Preston Haskell IV purchased the farm Dombeya (originally part of neighbouring Rust & Vrede) and renamed it Haskell Vineyards. Shortly thereafter, Rianie Strydom joined Haskell as Winemaker and GM, and soon became the first woman to be offered membership of the Cape Winemakers Guild.

Critics Ratings

'Generosity and seduction in '07. Luscious, complex and dense dark berry fruit core; integrated spicy oak - a rich velvet texture with lifted acidity. Ageworthy. Own vineyards, 50% carbonic maceration, rest natural ferment, 16 months 55% new French barrels.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2010, 5*

'Deep and bright with just a hint of garnet on the rim. Rich and powerfully ripe on the nose. Macerated cherries, cloves, rooibos tea leaves, tiny tip of peppermint leaf, nutmeg. Big and bold, multi-layered leather, that sweet tea leaf, a touch of liquorice and then a glorious chorus of ripe luscious and vibratingly fresh plums. So lifted. This is the wine version of a massed choir. It fills the whole mouth and keeps reverberating. Long and so lovely it makes me smile as I just listen to the echoes. SO long. Velvety tannins.' - Tamlyn Currin, JancisRobinson.com, 17.5/20 (Feb 2011)
