Joyce Jazz is a painter, designer, student, and YouTuber from Luanda, Angola. She started painting at the age of 3 with her father, the artist Paulo Jazz. She studied Computer Science as well as Economics and Law at Colégio Amadurecer, Luanda, and in 2018 studied with the Brazilian professor David Pedrosa.

Jazz has participated in collectives with Paulo Jazz, Paulo Kapela and Antonio Ole and attended the UNAP and Barracha-Ovens and Thermodynamic Technologies Ceramics Seminar in Luanda, in 2006. In 2019, she participated in the Beyond the Feminine Art exhibition, in homage to the 58th Venice Biennale. The artist has also participated in numerous group exhibitions including Blue House with Nuno Pimentel (2006, 2007), Fenacult (Festival of Angolan Culture) (2013), and A Tribute to Paulo Jazz (2021). She curated the exhibition Coletiva Cores de Guardiãs (March, 2021) as well as the Cores e Paz project (April, 2021).

This lot is the work of one of the 16 finalists of the Emerging Painting Invitational Prize (EPI) 2022. This is an international art platform developed by the African Art Galleries Association (AAGA) to support and recognise the excellence of emerging painters living and working on the continent.
