About this Item

2003 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes
4 (1 x 4) 750ml

Domaine de la Janasse was established in 1976 by Aimé Sabon. The estate owns roughly 40 hectares of vines, over 70 different parcels across the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. With Aimé still overseeing the vineyards, the domaine is now managed by his children, Christophe and Isabelle. Combining the best of both old and new winemaking techniques, their domaine is well-regarded as one of the most prominent and respected estates in the region today. ‘I have long been a huge fan of the wines of the Sabon family of Domaine de la Janasse,’ wrote Robert Parker of the Wine Advocate, ‘just about everything they make… is remarkable.’

Critics Ratings

‘Possibly the wine of the vintage and the best bottle of this I’ve had to date, the 2003 Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes has a drop-dead gorgeous bouquet of spice-laden red and black fruits, licorice, graphite and mineral to go with a seamless, full-bodied and decadently-styled palate. Seriously rich and voluptuous, yet also perfectly balanced, poised and fresh, this beauty should continue to shine for another decade, although I see no reason to delay gratification.’ - Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, 98/100 (Jun 2013)

‘Gorgeous raspberry ganache and spice aromas give way to richly layered but silky smooth notes of boysenberry, blackberry, mocha, mineral and tar. Long, pure beam of fruit resonates through the finish. Fantastic purity and finesse for the vintage. Best from 2007 through 2025.’ - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 96/100 (Oct 2005)
