About this Item
Located in the heart of Gigondas, Saint Cosme is one of the oldest estates in the region with its winemaking dating back to Roman times. The estate has belonged to the Barruol family since 1490 and has passed through 14 generations. They have 15 hectares of old vines with an average age of 60 years and have been practicing organic viticulture since the 1970s. They established a negociant side to the business in 1997 whereby they produce wines from great terroirs and locations outside of Gigondas.

Château de Saint Cosme Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2005
‘The 2005 Châteauneuf-du-Pape is superb, a blend of 50% old vine Mourvèdre and the rest Grenache, aged in old used small barrels. The wine has a dense purple color and a full bodied style with plenty of tannin and sweet roasted meat smells intermixed with blackberry, licorice, incense, and forest floor. The wine is broad, dense, and in need of 2-3 years of bottle age. It should keep for 20 or more years.’ - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 92/100 (Oct 2007)
Château de Saint Cosme Gigondas Cuvée Valbelle 2005
‘Deeper and richer than their classic cuvée, the Grenache dominated 2005 Gigondas Cuvée Valbelle offers an incredible bouquet of blackcurrants, charcoal, licorice, toasted spice and charred meats. Incorporating 10% Syrah, it’s full-bodied, deep and concentrated on the palate, with a smoking mid-palate, gorgeous fruit and a great finish. This is every bit as good as the Hominis Fides, and should drink well for another decade.’ - Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, 95/100 (Feb 2015)
‘Ripe and showy, with deliciously pure blackberry, boysenberry and fig fruit, all layered with mocha, incense and Turkish coffee hints. The long, rich finish is really rich and silky, with a nice buried minerality.’ - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 92/100 (May 2008)
