Today, the resultant estate and vineyards grow from the site in complete harmony with their captivating surrounds. Their glass-encased tasting room is permeable to the landscape and provides a lens into the natural environment, creating a constant state of transition as the vineyards change with the seasons and their next-generation team farm like their futures depend on it. Although they urge patrons to visit their establishment to have a taste of the future, this first-time vertical case of their award-winning LUCCA (Merlot, Cabernet Franc) provides a gateway to the past. This lot provides insight into their collective memories of the last 6 vintages and aims to showcase just how well their cool climate reds develop over time.

A magnum of the flagship red blend from internationally acclaimed red wine focused winery Anwilka in Stellenbosch. Anwilka was founded by Lowell Jooste (the former co- owner of Klein Constantia) along with internationally renowned Bordeaux wine personalities Hubert de Boüard (co-owner of Chateau Angélus in Saint Emilion) and Bruno Prats (former owner of Chateau Cos d’Estournel in Saint- Estèphe). By combining great winemaking traditions and innovations, Anwilka aims to create an exceptional South African red wine using the wealth of experience provided by the international partnership.

Klein Constantia Estate Red Blend 2018 (1 x 1500ml)
A magnum of Klein Constantia Estate Red blend – a sophisticated blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Malbec. A wine that best represents their unique location, the estate red blend is an elegant and refined red wine with rich dark red fruit dominating the nose, followed by aromas of black cherries and wood spice. On the palate, finely grained tannins are subtly integrated with delicate oak flavours. Luxurious with a savoury finish showcasing that typical cool climate Constantia style.

Klein Constantia Cuvee Anabel Rose 2020 (1 x 750ml)
A wine dedicated to Anabel Bakala, the eldest daughter of Klein Constantia owner Zdenek Bakala. Inspired by the rose garden she helped to plant on Klein Constantia, Anabel began to research the many South African rose varieties. One in particular caught her eye: the ‘Sunbelt’ rose, whose beautiful bright orange and coral colours mirrored those of Cuvée Anabel. The nose bursts with fresh floral, zesty peach and rose water aromas. Refreshing yet complex, the flavours from the nose follow through onto the palate, balanced by a delicate spice. A vibrant mouthfeel that is rounded off by a crisp, dry finish.

Klein Constantia Sauvignon Blanc 2021 (1 x 1500ml)
Quintessentially Klein Constantia – this magnum of Sauvignon Blanc is a pure expression of terroir. Since it was planted over 40 years ago, Klein Constantia Sauvignon Blanc is regarded as one of the greatest Sauvignon Blancs in SA. It became the benchmark, proving that Sauvignon Blanc can stand the test of time. Now, after much research and development, the 2021 vintage is a wine with a sense of place and unique style. A blend of 44 different batches from 43 different vineyard blocks, each made carefully and finally combined to create the perfect blend that is Klein Constantia Sauvignon Blanc.

Klein Constantia Vin de Constance 2017 (1 x 1500ml)
Frequently described as one of the world’s most beautiful vineyard locations, Klein Constantia originally formed part of Constantia, a magnificent estate granted to the tenth commander of the Cape of Good Hope, Simon van der Stel, in 1685. The lusciously sweet wines of Constantia were famous within a remarkably short period of time – savoured by royalty, given pride of place in the cellars of the world’s greatest wine collectors and immortalised by the best poets and authors of the 18th and 19th centuries. Alas, production of sweet Constantia wine ceased during the mid-to-late 1800s. The iconic sweet wine was revived by Klein Constantia in 1986 and has since found its place in the top lists around the world.
