About this Item
After completing harvests in Sancerre, Saint-Émilion and Béziers, and working for many years at Kleine Zalze and Graham Beck, Erika Obermeyer took a leap of faith and set out to produce her own range of wines. In 2016, Erika established Erika O as a boutique winery aimed at producing small-batch, hand-crafted, terroir specific wines from selected vineyards across the Cape Winelands. Sourcing grapes from select vineyard sites across the Western Cape winelands, including Groenekloof, Stellenbosch and Voor Paardeberg, Erika produces wines that embody the very best of distinctive and diverse regions. Her talent as a solo winemaker was immediately noticed both locally and abroad, most notably being awarded the Newcomer Winery of the Year in the 2019 Platter SA Wine Guide.
Erika O Grenache Noir Cinsault Vertical Collection 2016, 2018, 2019 (6 x 750ml)
The Stellenbosch, Voor Paardeberg, Wellington and Agter Paarl terroir matched perfectly with the three varieties to showcase the remarkable fruit intensity, freshness and elegance of the distinctive varietals. Syrah adds the fresh red berry fruit, spices and structure, the Grenache Noir lends fresh fruit, elegance and structure while Cinsault contributes brighter fruit, acidity and freshness. Syrah from vineyards in Firgrove, Stellenbosch, planted on decomposed granite soils. Bush vine Grenache Noir from Voor Paardeberg and Wellington, planted on granite and shale soils. Cinsault form dryland farmed bush vines in Agter-Paarl, planted on Malmesbury Shale. Voted Platter Wine Guide Newcomer Winery of the Year 2019 and awarded 5 Stars (95 points) for all three vintages of the Erika O Syrah Grenache Noir Cinsault 2016, 2018 and 2019.
Erika O Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 (1 x 1500ml and 6 x 750ml bottles)
Fruit from a 20-year-old and 9-year-old vineyard planted on deep granitic soils in Firgrove, Stellenbosch. A serious wine with all the hallmarks of an extraordinary Cabernet. The nose features alluring nuances of concentrated red and black fruit, tilled earth and cedar wood combined with oak spice, while the palate shows intensity and depth underscored by chalky ripe tannins and a savoury finish. Rich and full bodied, yet expertly balanced with superb purity and focus. Voted Platter Wine Guide Newcomer Winery of the Year 2019 and awarded Platter 4.5 Stars (94 points) and Tim Atkin 93 points.
