About this Item
Gabriëlskloof was established in 2001 when Bernhard Heyn discovered the Avontuur farm, located on the outskirts of Botrivier. He purchased the land and created Gabriëlskloof as we know it today. On the farm, they are passionate about incorporating environmentally friendly practices, where possible, and Gabriëlskloof is a WWF Conservation Champion farm. Cellar Master, Peter-Allan Finlayson, has been at Gabriëlskloof since 2014 and has reshaped the Gabriëlskloof aesthetic. Their wines aim to reflect the complexity, richness and diversity of Gabriëlskloof's unique terroir.

Critics Ratings
‘The shale soils at Gabriëlskloof produce a denser, darker, richer wine that can take more oak and has darker berry flavours of blackberry and blueberry, complemented by stony grip, some pepper spice and sinewy tannins. Needs more time. Drink 2019-25.’ – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2017, 93/100
‘In youth, 2015 a little darker-fruited & weightier than Sandstone partner, with fynbos & savoury notes. Has special intensity - but almost more of character (introspective, brooding) than of flavour. Subtle but forceful tannins.’ – Platter’s SA Wine Guide, 4.5* (93/100)
‘Own grapes. Red and black fruit, an attractive herbal note and white pepper on the nose. Broader with softer tannins than its counterpart above and as a result more immediately accessible. Overall impression is again nicely savoury, however.’ – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 92/100
