Notes
The view shows Devil’s Peak and Table Mountain from Rondebosch Common seen from a window of the Groote Schuur Estate where the artist spent some time. Wenning died at the age of 47 from tuberculosis but, despite his relatively short career, he produced over 300 paintings in addition to his drawings and etchings. His work is included in the collections of the Iziko South African National Gallery in Cape Town, the Pretoria Art Museum, the Johannesburg Art Gallery, the William Humphreys Gallery in Kimberley, and the Wits Art Museum, among others.
