Notes
"Ons skildery waaraan hierdie storie gekoppel is, is net getiteld Dô in diep kleur.
"Our painting to which this story is linked is simply titled Dô in Deep Colour. Because Marthinus often referred to his sister Dolly, I was under the impression that it was a portrait of her. That's why I went to find her years ago. I established that she is married to a Danie Maree van De Rust and lives on the farm Varkenskraal in Meiringspoort. I wondered if her husband was the Danie I knew in my high school years at Outeniqua in George. Unfortunately, he was not at home on the day of my visit. I was disappointed, also because I had to conclude that Dô in deep colour was not a good portrait - I could not see any likeness but, I consoled myself, it was still a good painting, representative of Marthinus' style and palette." —Dr Matthys J Strydom, 2021
