Barry Jackson is a second-generation South African, of Scottish and Afrikaner descent. He was raised and educated in Zambia and now lives in Cape Town, near the slopes of Table Mountain. Jackson spent two years at the East London School of Art followed by a further year at the Johannesburg School of Art. He is known for his bronze sculptures and is regularly commissioned to create full-figure portraits of historical figures. Among these are OR Tambo, Mahatma Gandhi, Louis van Mauritius, Johannes van der Kemp, Ahmed Kathrada, Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, and Nelson Mandela. Jackson’s work is held in many public and private collections both locally and internationally.
