About this Item
Boekenhoutskloof, located in the Franschhoek valley, was established in 1776 and gets its name 'Boekenhout' from an indigenous Beech tree. Boekenhoutskloof, managed by Marc Kent, describes themself as a Syrah specialist. Their efforts in conservation can be seen through initiatives they have taken-on in their farm and surrounding areas. They are also a founding member of the Franschhoek Mountain Conservancy.

Critics Ratings
‘Category icon. 2008 with poise and restraint, yet bursting with floral scents and intense crushed berry fruit. Layered spices and fynbos on endless finish. 18 months in used barrels. Will reward cellaring.’ - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2011, 4.5*
‘Harvested over one week and matured in second fill barrels for a total of 27 months, the 2008 Syrah has a well defined bouquet with more red fruits than black, touches of white pepper interlacing fresh prune (though not in an over-ripe sense), Provencal herbs, allspice and a touch of white fennel. The palate is very harmonious on the entry, soft and quite plush at first, belying the tannic backbone underneath. It is very elegant towards the finish allowing rustic peppery notes to render this one of South Africa’s most expressive Syrahs.’ - Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 93/100 (Aug 2011)
