About this Item
Gabriëlskloof was established in 2001 when Bernhard Heyn discovered the Avontuur farm, located on the outskirts of Botrivier. He purchased the land and created Gabriëlskloof as we know it today. On the farm, they are passionate about incorporating environmentally friendly practices, where possible, and Gabriëlskloof is a WWF Conservation Champion farm. Cellar Master, Peter-Allan Finlayson, has been at Gabriëlskloof since 2014 and has reshaped the Gabriëlskloof aesthetic. Their wines aim to reflect the complexity, richness and diversity of Gabriëlskloof's unique terroir.

‘The lighter of the two Gabriëlskloof soil-focused Syrahs, this is an impressive first release on Peter-Allan Finlayson’s watch. You can sense the delicate hand of a Pinot Noir specialist here: light, elegant and ethereal with subtle reduction, clove spice and fresh acidity. Drink 2018-23.’ – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2017, 93/100
‘Own grapes. Black fruit, intense pepper and a slight smoky note on the nose. The palate displays excellent concentration with fresh acidity and a properly dry finish. Currently quite stern, it will definitely benefit from a year of three in bottle.’ – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 92/100
‘2015 has the lighter, more lifted aromas of the pair of syrahs in this range, with the dried peach note found on many of the reds here. A touch more immediate charm & elegance, while well structured. Both these more savoury & serious than Estate Syrah. 20% new oak on both.’ – Platter’s SA Wine Guide, 4.5* (92/100)
