About this Item
Established in 2007 by the dynamic husband-and-wife team, Chris and Andrea Mullineux have, in a very short space of time, established Mullineux as one of South Africa’s most celebrated producers. Their track record speaks for itself: Awarded Wine Enthusiast’s International Winemaker of the Year in 2016, Tim Atkin’s SA Winemakers of the Year in 2017 and Five times Platter's Winery of the Year (2014, 2016, 2019, 2020, 2023).
This Syrah is sourced from nine different vineyards in an attempt to represent the different terroirs of the Swartland.

'100% Syrah; represents a blend of nine vineyards, five on schist, three on granite and one on iron; vinified with 60% whole clusters): Bright red-ruby. Perfumed nose offers scents of sour cherry, clove, dried herbs, white pepper, flowers, rust and meat. An attractive but very young midweight Syrah in a rather southern Rhône style, with silky but youthfully tight flavors of cherry, cranberry, graphite and wintergreen. Finishes persistent and firm but with very fine-grained tannins. Lay this one down for a few years. As much as I like the soil-designated Syrahs from this superb producer, this blend can be outstanding too.’ – Stephen Tanzer, 90+/100 Vinous.com (2015),
‘30-35% whole bunch. Seven different parcels from different soil types. They always make up this wine first – before the soil-type bottlings. Dark crimson. Very appetising and racy on the nose. Light and savoury. Some leather and even slightly lean. Clean and dry. Very fresh but not mean.’17.5/20 – Jancis Robinson (2015)
'Consummate blend of 9 vineyards & the characteristics of schist-, granite- & iron-based soils. 2012 appealing garrigue scrub, graphite/gun oil & white pepper tones woven into concentrated fruit & tannin structure. The most balanced in youth of the Syrahs; eminently ageworthy.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2015, 4.5*
