About this Item

2001 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Croix des Bois
6 (1 x 6) 750ml

Michel’s Chapoutier’s landholding, track record and incredible consistency from entry-level wines through to the single-vineyards is unparalleled in the world of wine. Chapoutier ranked 4th in 2019 amongst the “World's Most Admired Wine Brands“. Chapoutier is one of the oldest names in the Rhone valley. Founded in 1808 by the Calvet family, it was sold to the Chapoutier family in 1855. Today, Michel Chapoutier is the reference-point for the entire Rhône Valley, especially with their single vineyard Sélections Parcellaires. In fact, Robert Parker has praised Chapoutier’s Northern Rhône’s as some of the world’s finest wines.

Critics Ratings

‘A deep, saturated ruby/purple color is followed by a gorgeous perfume of black cherries macerated in brandy, intermixed with that Provencal melange of herbs, earth, and spice box. Notes of Havana tobacco intertwined with licorice, roasted meats, and sweet cherry and cassis fruit ooze across the palate with no sense of heaviness. The sweetness of the glycerin and sensational tactile impression make for a monumental taste of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. It should drink well for 20 years.’ - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 94/100 (Feb 2004)

‘Black fruits and strong garrigue notes on the nose. Dense and ripe. Quite firm and long on the back end. Offers impressive potential.’ - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 91-94 (Jan 2003)
