About this Item
Mvemve Raats, or MR for short, is a collaboration between Bruwer Raats and Mzokhona Mvemve. De Compostella, meaning ‘field of stars’, is their icon with an international reputation for being a stellar Cabernet Franc-driven Bordeaux blend – with all the trophies to prove it. It stands today as the highest rated Bordeaux-styled red wine from South Africa by the Wine Advocate and was lauded by Neal Martin as ‘one of the most memorable wines in the world’. It was also named one of the Top 10 Reds from South Africa for 4 consecutive vintages in US publication Wine Spectator.

'From another block buster vintage, 2006 was good for whites and reds and this wine really is shining at the moment. Dense, concentrated but weightlessly intense, this wine has lovely mineral tannins, a full, sleek silky mouthfeel and a general aura of distinguished elegance. Certainly no rush here at all. Lovely wine.' - Greg Sherwood MW, 95+/100
‘Classier than 05, 06 is a classically composed blnd of 5 Bdx varieties, led by cab. Svelte & seamless, velvety dark fruit & choc underscored by deft cedary oak & finely tuned tannins. Wonderfully elegant & ageworthy.' – Platter's SA Wine Guide 2009, 4.5*
‘Medium ruby. Complex, claret-like aromas of blackberry, boysenberry, licorice, tobacco and cedar, plus an exotic whiff of honey. Tactile and penetrating, offering a captivating combination of ripe black fruit flavors and energy. Plenty of stuffing here but light on its feet. Finishes with refined dark fruit and cedar flavors and very fine tannins. The most impressive vintage yet for this joint venture of Mzokhona Mvemve (who owns Sagila Wines) and Bruwer Raats.’ – Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 92/100 (Mar 2009)
‘A burly, muscular style, with chestnut, dark cocoa and braised fig notes held in check by firm but ripe tannins. A very streamlined finish, with great buried acidity, lets hints of cassis and graphite lurk underneath, along with a vibrant maduro tobacco note. It's all there for cellaring. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Merlot. Best from 2010 through 2014.’ – James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 93/100 (Mar 2009)
