About this Item
In 1992, the late Giulio Bertrand retired to South Africa from Italy and bought the historic Morgenster farm on the slopes of the Schaapenberg, which dates back to 1711. Specialising in long-ageing Bordeaux-style reds, the director of Cheval Blanc, Pierre Luton, was hired as the consultant.

Critics Ratings
‘Bordeaux blend of regal bearing, seamless & complete. 2008 modern, plush blue/blackberry fruit buffed by powder-fine tannins, long finish. Merlot & cabernet sauvignon & cabernet franc, dash petit verdot. No 2007. 2006 more overt than savoury 2005 (5 stars). 50% new wood 16 mths.’ – Platter’s SA Wine Guide, 4.5* (2011)
‘Graphite, somewhat unreadable on the nose. Very mineral, dark, elusive. The poker-faced Morgenster with the fruit cards close to a tight chest. A great skein of gleaming structure. This will open out with time, but for the moment it's not looking for a play mate.’ – Tamlyn Currin, JancisRobinson.com, 17+/20 (Sep 2012)
