About this Item
Founded in 1682, Rustenberg Estate on the Simonsberg foothills is one of the most historic and picturesque farms in South Africa. The farm was previously split into two estates, until 1945 when industrialist Peter Barlow purchased both farms and reunited them. Rustenberg is family-owned with son of Peter Barlow, Simon, owning the estate and grandson, Murray (2 x Diners Club Young Winemaker of the Year) now cellar master.
This site-specific Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the oldest vineyard on the estate, high up on the Simonsberg. It is truly one of South Africa’s best Cabernet Sauvignons and has the track record to age for decades, especially in a great vintage like 2005.

‘Good full ruby-red. Vibrant aromas of cassis, licorice and wild spices, with complementary hints of chocolate and mocha. Sweet, creamy and deep, with a layered, mouthfilling quality to the cassis and cigar box flavors. Remarkably lush wine for this structured vintage ... I'd give this at least another couple of years before pulling the cork; it should evolve at least through the early 2020s.’ Stephen Tanzer, Vinous.com, 94/100
