About this Item
Château d'Issan is a property in the Margaux appellation, rated as a third growth in the official Bordeaux Classification of 1855. It is known for its richly aromatic, silky wine of the same name. D'Issan has a long history even by the standards of Bordeaux. In 1152, its wine was served at the marriage between Eleanor of Aquitaine and Henry II of England. The current, moated château was built in the 18th Century and is regarded as one of the most picturesque in all of Bordeaux.

‘Wonderful aromatics of walnut, leather, soft truffles, touches of cloves, this is a perfect wine for the winter months. The high acidity maintains freshness and backbone but there is a definite tertiary feel at this point with autumnal raspberry and blackberry fruits. It's gentle and welcoming with the elegant edge that Issan does so well. Feels like an old friend and practically begs you to stop what you are doing and open a book. A yield of 36hl/ha. 50% new oak. Drinking Window 2020 - 2034.’ – Jane Anson, Decanter, 94/100 (Dec 2019)
‘Fully mature, the 2000 D’Issan is a quintessentially elegant, yet concentrated, aristocratic Margaux that defines the appellation. The wine has a dark ruby/purple color just beginning to lighten at the edge. Notes of charcoal, acacia flowers, black raspberries, and blue fruits are followed by a medium to full-bodied wine that builds incrementally on the palate. With its outstanding purity, richness, elegance and length, this is a beauty that has reached its window of maturity, where it should stay for another 15 or more years. Drink 2010 - 2025.’ – Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 93/100 (Jun 2010)
‘Jeroboam. Very dark crimson with slowly ageing rim. Complex. Edge of tea leaves and melted tannins. Not heavy or sweet. Lifted and lovely now. Scented with marked acidity.’ – Jancis Robinson, JancisRobinson.com, 17.5/20 (May 2015)
