In the 1980s, the non-racial Johannesburg school, Woodmead, staged a workshopped anti-apartheid production (produced by Malcolm Purkey) of Gandhi in South Africa, with a non-racial cast. The artist, whose children attended the school, produced this series of editioned prints to commemorate the historically important theatrical event.
