Critics Ratings
‘First released as a Cape Winemakers' Guild Auction lot back in 2015, this has now become a feature of the main Newton Johnson range. Sourced from a vineyard on deep clay and granite soils, this has considerable depth and concentration with some tobacco notes from 15% whole bunches, subtle wood integration and complex, savoury fruit flavours. 2021-30.’ - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2019, 96/100
‘Pale ruby. Really rather warm, ripe nose and then lovely freshness on the palate. Another wine from this address that seems rather maritime. Already fun to drink with lots of undertow and a very delicate hand regarding oak.’ – Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20 (Sep 2019)
‘The 2018 Family Vineyards Seadragon Pinot Noir is matured in tight-grain oak barrels like the Windansea. This is more backward on the nose by comparison, showing a slight reduction that should blow off. The medium-bodied palate is pure and sensual, delivering supple tannin and leading to a lightly spiced, Gevrey-like finish that lingers in the mouth. A wonderful Pinot Noir that should age with style.’ – Neal Martin, Vinous, 93/100 (Oct 2019)
