‘Beginning with a beautifully aromatic and mineral-driven nose, the 2018 Nom Pinot Noir glides with iron-rich aromas, lifted floral tones and strawberry and cherry essence. Medium-bodied, the palate is clean and correct with a red tea spice and tart red fruit—pomegranate and cranberry—then offers nuances of freshly opened red roses. The structure is effortlessly balanced with a long, complex and lingering finish. Bravo, this is a beautiful wine, and I will gladly take a second sip.’ – Anthony Mueller, Wine Advocate, 91/100 (Mar 2020)
‘The 2018 Nom Pinot Noir is the fourth release from the W.O of Elandskloof. It has a glorious bouquet of red cherry, cranberry and wild hedgerow scents that are very pure and well defined. The palate is succulent on the entry, presenting tart red cherries and orange pee and leading to a precise, very Burgundy-inspired finish. This is perhaps the most harmonious vintage that I have encountered from Saurwein. Produced in limited quantity but worth the hunt. Good luck!’ – Neal Martin, Vinous, 93/100 (Oct 2019)
‘This ex Elandskloof grapes, like Om spontaneous ferment, seasoned oak, ‘head-to-toe’ vinification (using both press & free-run fractions). 2018 brims with vivacious fruit in fine structure, less austere than 2017 (4 stars, 89 pts). Intensity augurs well for 3+ years in cellar.’ - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2020, 4.5* (91/100)
‘It's hard to think of a bad wine from the shale-based Kaaimansgat Vineyard in Elandskloof and this is right up there with the best Pinot Noirs from the site. Serious, concentrated and focused, with savoury tannins, layers of black cherry and raspberry fruit and skilfully integrated 20% new wood. 2021-28’ - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2019, 94/100
