About this Item
The Coche-Dury estate was founded by Jean-François Coche’s grandfather in 1920. Jean-François Coche-Dury inherited the estate in 1972 and today runs the domaine with his son, Raphael. While they produce some of the best white wines from Burgundy, and have achieved cult status, their red Crus are equally as fine. The Coche-Dury wine-making practices are very traditional with exceptional attention to detail given.
Provenance
The Coats Family Cellar is arguably the most prestigious fine wine collection ever offered in South Africa. It contains a deep collection of the worlds finest, most sought-after wines, spanning over 150 years. Collected over many decades, the cellar was imported from Ireland to South Africa via reefer. Each bottle within the Coats Family Cellar was authenticated by Michael Egan in August 2022 and given an ID number for tracking.
Michael Egan is a world-expert in fine and rare wines with more than thirty five years of experience. He was the principal expert for the plaintiff in the two major wine counterfeiting trials in Koch v. Eric Greenberg and United States v. Rudy Kurniawan, both of which occurred in 2013.
Along with Michael Egan, the Strauss & Co Fine Wine team have tasted extensively through the cellar and are confident of the wine storage and hence quality. The entire collection is currently stored at Wine Cellar.
Critics Ratings
‘This 2014 Meursault is still infinitely youthful, with notes of ripe apple and acacia flowers, lemon peel, and a hint of hazelnut. The texture is rich but lively and fresh, and the combination of the forward aromatics, crisp acidity, and silky texture drive the wine to a satisfying finish. This has a youthful charm now, but is certain to improve for years to come.’ - Charles Curtis MW, Decanter.com, 94/100 (Oct 2021)
‘The 2014 Meursault Villages has a well defined bouquet with grapefruit, apple blossom and subtle chalky scents that needed a little encouragement from the glass. The palate is fresh with crisp acidity. It feels lively at first and then seems to mellow in the glass, offering a light twist of sour lemon on the pretty finish. It is a delightful village cru that should bestow several years of pleasure, possibly more.’ - Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 91/100 (Nov 2016)
