About this Item
Meerlust Estate, owned by the Myburgh family, has been in the family for eight generations. Located 5km from False Bay, the property was given the name 'Meerlust' from the original owner, which means 'pleasure of the sea'. The Meerlust name is synonymous with tradition, elegance and longevity. In fact, it was their Cabernet Sauvignon, produced since 1975, that was the first to carry the Meerlust label.
Producer Notes: This garnet and ruby-hued Pinot Noir has black cherry, raspberry and rich strawberry aromas. Surprise clove spices, with hints of mineral earthiness and pepper on the nose that follow through to the palate. Full bodied-mouthfeel, with fine tannins. Nice, lingering fruits on the delicate finish. In the classical styles of fine Pinot Noir.

Critics Ratings
'Beginning to brown, with a gorgeous spicy berry aroma followed by forest floor, decaying berry and smoke flavors. Silky and dense on the palate, this is ready to enjoy.' - Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator (May 2000)
'My limited experience with South African Pinot Noirs suggests that they are reminiscent of a cross between the Burgundian and the New World style. Meerlust's 1997 is medium to dark ruby-colored, and has beautifully ripe, dark cherry aromas intermingled with toasty oak. This tangy, nicely dense, medium-bodied wine is packed with red cherry fruit, and finishes on just a trace of alcoholic warmth. It is softly-textured, well-balanced, yet regrettably is expensive (like all too many of the world's Pinot Noirs). Drink it over the next 3-4 years.' - Pierre Rovani, Wine Advocate (Jan 2000)
