Founded in 1682, Rustenberg Estate on the Simonsberg foothills is one of the most historic and picturesque farms in South Africa. The farm was previously split into two estates, until 1945 when industrialist Peter Barlow purchased both farms and reunited them. Rustenberg is family-owned with son of Peter Barlow, Simon, owning the estate and grandson, Murray (2 x Diners Club Young Winemaker of the Year) now cellar master.

Critics Ratings
‘Multi-dimensional 2008 Chardonnay clears bar set by concentrated 2007 (4.5 stars): citrus zest, apple blossom, lime and nut oil; sophisticated fruit core perfectly harmonised with well-judged oak (15 months, 70% new).’ - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2011, 5*
‘Mature and ripe, but well-defined, with well-embedded acidity that lets the gorgeous quince, glazed pear, roasted hazelnut and dark fig notes all glide through together. Tropical and rich, but stays fresh.’ - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 91/100 (Sept 2011)
'Bright pale yellow. Captivating aromas of peach, neectarine, flinty minerality, nutmeg and sexy oak. The palate offers lovely restrained sweetness and concentration, with the strong mineral component giving the wine terrific life in the mouth. Finishes long and supple, with a note of marzipan. This very sexy young chardonnay needs a bit more time in the bottle to gain additional complexity but does not seem to be high in acidity. This was the first vintage vinified by Randolph Christians.' - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 92/100 (Mar 2011)
