About this Item

1999 & 2001 Nuits-St-Georges Les Pruliers & Clos des Porrets St-George
4 (1 x 4) 750ml

Domaine Henri Gouges is a highly regarded producer in Nuits-Saint-Georges with holdings in a number of the appellation's Premiers Crus. Established in 1920, Henri Gouges was dissatisfied with the idea of selling his fruit to négociants. He envisioned producing wines of superior quality from his new domaine and, by 1933, was producing, bottling and selling his own wines. The property has remained undivided and family-run, with custodianship passed from generation to generation. Today, it is managed by Henri’s great grandsons, Gregory and Antoine Gouges but Henri's philosophy: ‘it is on the vines that great wines are made’ has endured. The estate now holds 14.5 hectares of vineyards. The Premiers Crus of the domaine and the wider Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation are considered to be some of the finest in the Côte de Nuits.

This lot consists of the following:
Henri Gouges Nuits-St-Georges Les Pruliers 1999 (1 x 750ml)
Henri Gouges Nuits-St-Georges Clos des Porrets St-Georges 1999 (1 x 750ml)
Henri Gouges Nuits-St-Georges Les Pruliers 2001 (2 x 750ml)

Critics Ratings

Henri Gouges Nuits-St-Georges Clos des Porrets St-Georges 1999
'Monopole. Lively crimson. Slightly autumnal nose. Chunky, thick, dense but correct. Definitely for traditionalists rather than modernists.' - Jancis Robinson, JancisRobinson.com, 17.5/20 (May 2002)

Henri Gouges Nuits-Saint-Georges  Les Pruliers 1999
‘Deep ruby-red. Sauvage but sweet aromas of plum, currant, leather, tobacco and menthol. Dense, concentrated and deep; a serious, rich wine with a chewy texture and sweet, insinuating flavor. Finishes with big, ripe, broad tannins.’ - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 90/100 (Mar 2002)

Henri Gouges Nuits-St-Georges Les Pruliers 2001
'Ruby with a pale rim – still lots of colour. Lightly earthy/ferny nose. Quite a grip on the front palate and then acidity to the fore. Rather stern overall. Cries out for food. Tannins still there. Brisk.' - Jancis Robinson, JancisRobinson.com, 16+/20 (Jan 2018)
