About this Item

2002 Vosne-Romanée Les Rouges & Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Boudots
3 (3 x 1) 750ml

Etienne Grivot took over from his father in 1990, becoming the fifth-generation Grivot to be making wine in Vosne-Romanée. In 1994, Etienne started to find his own voice and make a range of very fine wines. He has since reduced yields, fine-tuned his work in both the vineyards and the cellar, and driven quality steadily upwards. The grapes are 100% destemmed and the fermentation is allowed to begin naturally. Four cooperages are used to avoid the signature of any one particular barrel maker. Now assisted by his two children, Mathilde and Hubert, Etienne produces a range of stunning wines which possess real depth and class. When asked for his secret to success, he owns that ‘there’s no recipe, it’s very personal and as a result it’s very frustrating as one is never content’.

This lot consists of the following wines:

Jean Grivot Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Boudots 2002
‘Deep red. Red fruits and minerals on the nose, along with a floral topnote. Juicy, fresh and nicely delineated, with subtle notes of red fruits, minerals and flowers. This shows the inner-palate energy of the vintage at its best. Finishes quite long, with suave tannins and lovely lift. Give this bottle at least four or five years in the cellar.’ - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 91/100 (Mar 2005)

Jean Grivot Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Rouges 2002
‘It had an attractive nose of earth and mushroom, sweet black cherries, a hint of savoury olives, and then some nicely lifted Vosne spice aromas. The palate was very fine-boned, with a firm structure that is starting to feel beautifully resolved, where beautiful balancing acidity and lovely fine tannins wrapped themselves around pure, clean, very correct flavours of dark cherries seasoned with peppery spice and cloves as the wine glided into a long defined finish. Pure, juicy and complete, with tons left in its tank yet. A beautiful 1er Cru from a lesser-known plot - this should continue to do well with time as it mellows and puts on more complexity.’ - Cellartracker.com, 92/100 (Feb 2019)
