About this Item
Egly-Ouriet produces terroir-expressive Champagne primarily from the Grand Cru village of Ambonnay, as well as from Bouzy, Verzenay and Vrigny. Owner and winemaker Francis Egly took over from his father in 1982, after which he immediately converted the domaine to 100% estate bottling, and in the process became one of the original pioneers in the grower Champagne movement. The domaine comprises 12 hectares of organically-farmed old vine Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay—50 years old on average.

‘The 2002 Brut Grand Cru Millésime is spectacular today, soaring from the glass with a complex bouquet of smoky pear, lemon, mandarin orange and peach mingled with smoke, praline, crushed mint and hints of wet chalk. Full-bodied, layered and seamless, it's deep and strikingly complete, with a textural attack that segues into a concentrated core framed by a vibrant spine of acidity and buttressed by chalky extract. Long and penetrating, this is one of the finest vintages Francis Egly has produced to date. ' - William Kelley, Wine Advocate, 95/100 (Apr 2021)
Very fine bead. Very bready nose with gorgeous breadth. Very solid and as though you can taste every single element picked up from that sediment over its nine years in the cellar. A lovely potpourri of aromas. Still lots to chew on. Very dry finish. I would guess zero dosage in this wine. All its richness comes from age. Long and layered. Not too fizzy. So delicate yet so complex! Another very serious wine. With potential.’ - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 18+/20 (May 2013)
