About this Item
Jérôme Prévost’s Champagne La Closerie was founded in 1998, after taking over his grandmother’s two hectares vineyard of Les Beguines, planted with massale selection Meunier in the Montagne de Reims village of Gueux. Like his fellow “Champagne Renegades”, Prévost focuses on site-specific bottlings primarily dedicated to one grape and one vintage. In order to achieve a textured, terroir-transparent style, he works toward extremely low yields and no chemical additives in the vineyard. The intensity, power and precision of Prévost Champagnes, combined with Jérôme’s thoughtful, comedic approach, has resulted in a cult following for the man and his wines.
While the main production chez Prévost is the Meunier-based Les Béguines, he also makes miniscule quantities of a fascinating Rose Champagne called Fac-simile. It is a Rose d'assemblage using still (red) Pinot Meunier from his vineyard. In addition, as Jérôme is always tinkering and experimenting, there is an occasional experimental cuvee that is released commercially.
The miniscule production is magnified by the cult-y following of Prévost Champages. While the technical details can't be eliminated from the conversation, Jérôme's wines should be viewed through the lens of his generous, artistic spirit. Part philosopher, part comedian, Jérome farms vines and produces wines with the deep desire to bring people together in the name of deliciousness.

'Made with 10% red wine, the non-vintage Extra Brut Rosé Fac Simile (LC12) is 100% Pinot Meunier picked in 2012. Made with 10% red wine but no maceration, the Fac Simile has a pale salmon color and offers a red currant-driven bouquet with spicy flavors. Quite intense and round on the palate (though the dosage end of 2014 is just two grams per liter), this creamy-textured Rosé reveals a serious structure with nice tannins and long and aromatic fruit. I would nevertheless drink this excellent Champagne not earlier than 2017 or even 2018.'- Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, 92+/100 (Mar 2016)
