Notes
The South African Maize Board (Mielieraad) was established in 1937 to play a role in stabilising the pricing and management of maize production and stock. This painting of a proud farmer standing in his maize field by Don Madge hung in the foyer of the Board's offices at 503 Belvedere Street in Pretoria. When the industry was deregulated in 1997 and the Board was disbanded, the painting was sold on auction.
