About this Item
Meerlust Estate, owned by the Myburgh family, has been in the family for eight generations. Located 5km from False Bay, the property was given the name 'Meerlust' from the original owner, which means 'pleasure of the sea'. The Meerlust name is synonymous with tradition, elegance and longevity. In fact, it was their Cabernet Sauvignon, produced since 1975, that was the first to carry the Meerlust label.
Having produced Cabernet Sauvignon since 1975 and the Rubicon in 1980, after several years of experimentation with fellow winemaker Giorgio Dalla Cia, a single expression of Merlot became one of the Cape’s best.

Critics Ratings
‘Tall, dark and handsome in refined house style, redolent of violets, roasted game bird and piquant spice. Polished 2014 epitomises the style; 8% aromatic Cabernet Franc, a splash of Petit Verdot and deft 65% new oak focus the medium-bodied mineral-nuanced core.’ - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2017, 4.5*
‘Supported by 8% Cabernet Franc and 7% Petit Verdot, this is a serious take on what is currently an unfashionable grape in South Africa. Smoky, herbal and well structured, with herbal, sweet and sour notes and a backbone of tannin.’ - Tim Atkin SA Special Report 2016, 91/100
