Notes
From 1982 to 1987, while represented by Linda Givon at the Goodman Gallery, Kumalo produced a number of seated and reclining figures. It is clear that these particular sculptures were strongly inspired by sculptures by Henry Moore of similar subject matter. In addition to a number of seated figures, Goodman Gallery's records list various reclining figures - Reclining Figure I, Reclining Figure II, Hugging Reclining Figure, Reclining Female Form and Joyous Reclining Figure - all of which were produced during this period. As the surviving records are incomplete, it is unclear exactly which of these titles relate to the present lot.
