'Classic violet, white pepper, red berries and liquorice pastille on the nose. A hint of lavender too. Wonderful tight grip on the palate brought about from filigree tannin and wonderfully bright acidity. Although bold and unctuous, this is still very lively too with further promise in cellaring'. - Higgo Jacobs 2020, 94/100
'Big, muscular wine, with lots of coffee, black currant, fig, game and grilled herb flavors that course through a tarry finish. Ample ripe structure and drive, and very Rhône-like.' - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 91/100 (2005)
'Bright red-ruby. A slightly candied quality to the flavors of blackberry pastille, pepper, spices, licorice and meat. Densely packed, supple and sweet, with impressive concentration to the flavors of black fruits, licorice and exotic spices. Finishes with sweet tannins and very good length. More expressive than the 2004 but ultimately a bit less complex. As with the cabernets, this is higher in alcohol and pH than the 2004, but the differences are smaller: 14.8% alcohol vs. 14.65, and 3.89 pH vs. 3.76.' - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous.com, 90/100 (2007)
