Critics Ratings
'Sultry 2007 tight-knit bramble fruits under veil of fine-grained tannins mid-2010, but dazzling fruit purity suggests immense pleasure in time. Cabernet plus lugs merlot & malbec. 22 months new French oak. 2006 (4.5 stars) was more restrained.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide, 5* (2011)
'The 2007 The MacKenzie is a blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot and 7% Malbec raised entirely in French oak for 22 months. It has a very toasty, oaky bouquet where the wood obfuscates the fruit profile. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe tannins on the entry, good acidity with sultry dark berried fruit and a grainy finish. I feel that a prudent oak regime would have allowed more fruit expression. Drink 2012-2016.' - Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 90/100 (Aug 2011)
