About this Item
At more than 3,200 feet above sea level within the magical Cederberg Wilderness Area, Cederberg Private Cellar is South Africa’s highest vineyard. The Nieuwoudt family have been farming in the Cederberg mountain for five generations, with vines planted as early as 1973, but the brand has been energetically driven to become one of SA wine's real success stories by David Nieuwoudt, now at the helm. Thanks to the isolation of the vineyards and the extreme winters, the vineyards are largely virus and disease free. David has single handedly established an enviable terroir identity for the Cederberg, while simultaneously building other successful, pioneering wine ventures, notably Ghost Corner in the region of Elim.

'Distinctive, cool-climate minerality with nettles, green fig and dusty dry fynbos expressive of Elim provenance. The small proportion fermented in French oak has added complexity and length with smoky bacon aromas. Firm acidity for mouth watering freshness. Ideally suited to food and fresh enough for solo enjoyment.'

Critics Ratings
‘Tight, with a bracing edge to the white asparagus, chive and mineral notes, backed by a hint of tangerine on the finish. A bit lean for a Sémillon, with the vegetal note lingering stubbornly. More like a Sauvignon Blanc. Drink now. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 125 cases made.’ - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 84/100 (Dec 2009).
