About this Item
Founded in 1682, Rustenberg Estate on the Simonsberg foothills is one of the most historic and picturesque farms in South Africa. The farm was previously split into two estates, until 1945 when industrialist Peter Barlow purchased both farms and reunited them. Rustenberg is family-owned with son of Peter Barlow, Simon, owning the estate and grandson, Murray (2 x Diners Club Young Winemaker of the Year) now cellar master.
Their flagship wine is named after Peter Barlow, and is a site-specific 100% Cabernet Sauvignon high up on the Simonsberg. It is the oldest vineyard on the estate.

Critics Ratings
‘All-Cabernet flagship as handsome as its venerable Simonsberg origin. Meticulous focus from grape (individually tagged bunches, stringent 3-pass harvest) to cellar (20 months in French barrels, 70% new, unfiltered). 2003 boldly ripe; sultry cassis lurks under grainy cloak mid-2005, sweet finish somehow keeps 15.5% alcohol at bay.’ - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2006, 4.5*
'Sleek, polished style, with currant, tobacco and toast flavors running along ripe tannins. Sinewy, cocoa powder-dusted finish shows solid length. Drink now through 2008.' - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 88/100 (Sep 2006)
