About this Item

2003 Fusion V
6 (1 x 6) 750ml

De Toren has been focused on developing and re-defining the Bordeaux concept into something uniquely South African since they acquired their first hectares in 1991. Specialising in luxurious & award-winning Bordeaux-style blends. The winery itself was nominated for best ‘New World Winery of the Year’ by Wine Enthusiast in 2011 and has established an iconic following. At De Toren the pursuit for perfection is evident in their grape selection and harvesting. They aim to ‘create an environment where vines produce flawless fruit and then guard these grapes as they are gently steered from vineyard, to cellar to bottle’.

The iconic Left Bank based blend from De Toren. Named for the ‘fusing’ together of Bordeaux’s five famous varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Malbec). The Fusion V celebrated its maiden vintage in 1999 and was introduced to the international markets. Under the guidance of Albie Koch this Bordeaux left-bank inspired blend has accumulated an energised and praised following from wine aficionados both in South Africa and abroad (especially in the US).

Best in class Silver - International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) 2005

2003 was one of the vintages of the decade for Stellenbosch, and the Fusion V took full advantage of these favourable conditions, producing a full-bodied, structured, long lived red.

Critics Ratings

'Creamy texture, with a fruit-driven profile of red currant, blackberry and plum flavors supported by mocha and mineral notes on the focused finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.' - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 91/100 (Feb 2016)

'Ripe purple and black fruit. Plush blackcurrant, savoury gun smoke, and again offset by touch of earthy notes of bouquet garni and wet clay. Drinking well now. Open knit, seamless.' - Higgo Jacobs (Feb 2021), 94/100

‘Waves of milk chocolate, evident new oak and densely ripe fruit. Quite open, with very ripe and sweet black fruits. Solid, rich and exotic. Drink now to 2028’ - Roland Peens (Feb 2021)
