About this Item

2003 V
6 (1 x 6) 750ml

With a history dating back over 300 years, Vergelegen has kept a simple winemaking philosophy this entire time, ‘there must be harmony between the old and the new’. Having produced fine, modern wines for two decades, Vergelegen is one of South Africa’s highest regarded, established producers. Situated on the Schaapenberg in Somerset West, overlooking False Bay. The 3,000 hectare estate is situated in one of the richest floral regions of the world and they practice sustainable farming and have various environmental projects.

The flagship V is a Cabernet Sauvignon carefully selected from their Stonepine and Rondekop vineyards. 2003 was a powerful vintage and is now reaching maturity.

Critics Ratings

'More impressive, enormous & dramatic than lovely in its tight-sprung youth: need yrs still for the concentrated sweet fruit to come out of its sombrely tannic, oak-dominated shell – but already vibrant, deep & long. Elegance is quite beside the point here … ’ - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2006, 4.5*

'Deep ruby-red. Explosive, slightly wild nose offers blackcurrant, musky game, mocha and smoky, charred oak; lower-toned than the Estate Red. Lush and fine-grained, with dense, dramatic flavors of black fruits, licorice and minerals. Has a texture of liquid velvet; perhaps even broader than the Estate Red but without quite the same energy or depth. But these tannins are wonderfully suave. This will reward a few years of aging, but it has considerable sex appeal today.' - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 93/100 (Mar 2007)
