About this Item

2008 Saint-Émilion
2 (1 x 2) 750ml

Amongst the many acclaimed wines that are produced from the age-old vineyards of Saint-Émilion, few are as sought-after as those of Château Cheval Blanc. Vines have been grown at the place named Cheval Blanc for centuries and the vineyard of Saint-Emilion has produced wines of outstanding quality year after year, decade after decade, since late antiquity… they are some of the most acclaimed in the world – and the mythical Château Cheval Blanc is at their forefront. Château Cheval Blanc is arguably the most famous estate in Saint-Émilion and obtained the highest distinction of Premier Grand Cru Classé “A” in 1954. The estate comprises 39 hectares of Cabernet Franc and Merlot, in near-equal amounts, expertly harnessing and honouring the historic terroir of the area. Cheval Blanc is a member of the exclusive “Club of 9” comprising the first growths of Bordeaux, and produces one of the world’s best Cabernet Franc-based wines.

Critics Ratings

‘Quite suppressed on the nose, with a tight, dark-fruit profile and bitter-savoury notes on the finish. Very different to the Ausone just tasted – austere by comparison, and with a sense of density that is rather unwieldy at present – but should relax with age.’ - Richard Hemming MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20 (Feb 2018)

‘The 2008 Cheval Blanc (55% Merlot and 45% Cabernet Franc) is a winner from this underrated, classic vintage. Notes of forest floor, Asian plum sauce, black currants, sweet cherries and spice are followed by a medium to full-bodied wine with deep fruit, admirable purity, and a long, textured finish. There is not a hard edge to this wine, and in all likelihood, it can be drunk now or cellared for two decades.’ - Robert Parker Jr, Wine Advocate, 93/100 (May 2011)

‘This isn't shy about letting a tobacco leaf note weave in and out, while the core of red currant, damson plum and bitter cherry grows and fleshes out as this airs. The long finish lets mineral, red licorice and mesquite check in as well. Shows impressive range, with some youthful grip still to be shed. Best from 2013 through 2020.’ - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 93/100 (Apr 2011)
