About this Item
Historic records show that Calon Segur dates back to 1147. After passing through generations the estate became the property of the famous Marquis de Segur. de Segur was owner of numerous top Bordeaux estates of the day, including Lafite and Latour, but he is quoted as saying: “I make my wine at Lafite and Latour, but my heart is in Calon.” That famous saying lives forever on the label of Chateau Calon Segur, where the drawing of a heart is prominently featured on the logo. Typically tannic due to his Saint-Estephe terroir, Calon Segur is finely textured, classically-styled and blossoms with age.
The style is brought by a Cabernet Sauvignon which expresses its finesse without arrogance. Elegance is to be found everywhere, in the purity of the wine’s flavours, in the delicacy of its texture, while its depth and length are also superb. The wine’s extraordinary ability to age many years in bottle is another feature of the estate.

Critics Ratings
'Blackish, purplish crimson. Savoury, energetic nose. Almost brutal in its pretty aggressive assault on the palate, this is clearly made to make a statement. Almost gamey but lots of the energy of this appellation. Lots of wet stones here!' - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17+/20 (Nov 2018)
'This is a beautifully perfumed wine. With a high proportion of ripe Cabernet Franc, it is not only structured but has a fine dried fruit character that gives the wine a memorable richness. The wine is tight with its tannins, likely to age over decades. Drink from 2027.' - Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, 95/100 (Apr 2017)
'On the darker side of the spectrum, with dark currant, plum and blackberry fruit, inlaid with ample dried bay and tobacco notes. Pepper and charcoal details fill in the finish, adding range and energy. A touch sauvage in style, this will have fans for sure. Best from 2020 through 2030.' James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 93/100 (Mar 2017)
