About this Item
Château Haut-Batailley is a wine estate in the Pauillac appellation in the Médoc area, north of Bordeaux city and on the left bank of the Garonne estuary. It is one of 18 estates with the status of Fifth Growth, awarded from the 1855 classification of Bordeaux.
The château building, which is constructed in an almost rustic, Basque style, sits at the southwestern end of the appellation area, roughly two kilometers (1.2 miles) or so due west of Château Latour and Château Pichon Longueville-Baron. The estate was once a part of the larger, neighboring, Château Batailley which sits just to the north of Haut-Batailley.

‘Bright limpid crimson. Quite tense and exciting spiciness on the nose. Rich and ripe. Quite forward but good savoury undertow. Lots of energy. Dry but not drying end. A good effort! Nothing forced.’ - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20 (Apr 2016)
‘The 2015 Haut Batailley is a blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon and 28% Merlot, matured in 60% new oak. It is a level up from the 2015 Lacoste Borie with much more fruit intensity: blackberry, boysenberry, tobacco and cedar aromas. It gathers momentum in the glass and develops a subtle mint accent. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, lithe tannin, very well balanced with just a slight tinniness that will disappear by the time in bottle. I love the pencil shaving sprinkled over the aftertaste here. With very good substance and impressive length, this is a classic Pauillac that I suspect will offer 25 or 30 years of pleasure.’ - Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 92-94/100 (Apr 2016)
'A light savory notes lead off, with gently mulled cherry, plum and black currant fruit catching up quickly. Singed vanilla, black tea and tobacco notes chime through the finish, which has a perfumy, singed wood echo that imparts a twinge of old-school character. Best from 2021 through 2031.’ - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 91/100 (Mar 2018)
