Notes

Wim Botha was born in 1974 in Pretoria, South Africa. He graduated from the University of Pretoria in 1996, and lives in Cape Town. He has received a number of prestigious awards. His work has featured on major international South African artists group exhibitions.
"My works are a process of distillations," Botha explains. "They attempt to reduce all-encompassing ideas and universal factors down to their core idea." Likened to a “mad scientist”, Botha contructs, revives and recontexualises his chosen materials (from trophy mounts and government texts, bibles and religious icons) through their reforming into final sculptural pieces.
Kathryn Smith in a review stated: “Botha has a knack of disguising quite radical content under the veil of traditional form."
