Notes

Angus Taylor is known in South Africa and abroad for his powerful, often large, works of sculpture characterised by outstanding craftsmanship. Taylor is a graduate of the university of Pretoria which bestowed an Alumni Laureate on him in 2005.

During his time as a student, Taylor took on the not insurmountable task of running a bronze foundry in Pretoria. This hands-on experience has in many ways been instrumental in his fearless approach in choosing materials and his status as a master craftsman. Taylor makes constant use of this knowledge as a means to empower himself in his use of traditional sculpture materials like granite or bronze. Text is imprinted onto the surface of bronzes, while granite works embrace the inherent block-like natural form, thus alluding to but not wholly representational of the human form.
