About this Item
Grapes come from a vineyard planted by current winemaker Danie Steytler Jnr's great grandfather in 1947. The block has been registered as a single vineyard and it is the second oldest of this variety in the country. Originally 6ha in size, only 1ha of the very low yielding vineyard remains - total production in 2017 was 900 bottles.

Critics Ratings
'The nose shows citrus, apple, stone fruit, quince and spice while the palate shows extraordinary richness and depth without sacrificing freshness - sweet, dense fruit upfront but the finish is entirely savoury. So of its place and perhaps that's ultimately what makes these old-vine wines so compelling.' - Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 95/100 (Dec 2018)
'Impeccably crafted 2017 from SA's 2nd-oldest chenin vines. Usual low-key winemaking: bunch pressing, natural ferment & selection of French/Hungarian barrels. Pear & quince on creamy palate, understated, elegant & complex, like 2016 (5 stars, 95 pts). Minuscule 150 cases.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2019, 4.5* (94/100)
'Only 900 bottles of this remarkable Chenin are produced, alas, so fight to get hold of one. It's a bush vine white of considerable complexity, with spicy, honeyed flavours, a hint of tangerine and a focused, palate-cleansing, mineral-etched finish. Old vine concentration at its best. 2019-27' - Tim Atkin SA Special Report 2019, 92/100
