About this Item
Paserene is a small, family operated winery owned by Martin Smith and Ndabe Mareda, the sole purpose of which is to produce high-end, luxury wines. Great care was given to ensure that the wines produced, and artwork on the labels, are truly authentic to its “sense of place and people” and will guarantee a lasting legacy. The name Paserene comes from the Latin word Passeriformes, the order of "traveling and free" birds containing swifts and swallows. Paserene is situated in the quaint town of Franschhoek and is home to their award-winning wine range.

Critics Ratings
‘Impressive three-way partnership cab (53%), petit verdot & splash rare-in-SA carmenère; 2016 blackcurrant, mulberry & cedar tones; like petit verdot-dominated 2015 (93 pts), tight-knit tannins for the long haul but with sufficient fruit, freshness to broach young.’ - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2020, 4.5* (94/100)
‘A blend of Carmenere and Petit Verdot, the 2016 Marathon is deep purple at its core. It is bursting with aromas of juicy blackberry compote, figs and black cherry on the nose along with complex notes of oak spices, cinnamon, nutmeg and resinous purple flowers. Full-bodied and dense, the wine has a complex expression, filled with flavors that unfold on the mid-palate, before ending with a long and thoughtful finish that lingers for moments, well after the wine has left the palate. Yum, I'm impressed! Well done.’ – Anthony Mueller, Wine Advocate, 91+/100 (Mar 2020)
'Deep black-cherry colour. Blackcurrant is a little riper here than on the Shiner cuvée by the same producer, and the whole is really perfumed – perhaps that's the Carmenère? There is just a touch of that variety's hallmark tomato-leaf scent. Firm, thick, chewy tannins with milk-chocolate texture and flavour on the finish. Needs time for the texture to become more elegant and slimmed down.' - Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16.5/20 (Feb 2019)
