About this Item

2011 Scharzhofberger Riesling Spätlese
1 (1 x 1) 750ml

The estate has been in the hands of the Müller family since 1797 and, today, Egon Müller's sweet Rieslings are considered to be some of the very best in Mosel. The family-run estate owns 8 hectares of vines in the highly desirable, world-famous Scharzhofberg vineyard, including 3 hectares of ungrafted Riesling vines that were planted in the 19th century. The Müller wines are of the highest quality and, without doubt, make them one of the world’s top wine producers. The Müller cuvées are fine, balanced and authentic with the potential for many years of ageing.

Critics Ratings

‘Ripe, rich and powerful, with concentrated flavors of ripe pear, baked peach and glazed apricot that feature plenty of smoky notes. Offers a focused minerality and spiciness as well, with a long, plush finish of ripe gooseberry and tarragon cream. Drink now through 2040.’ - Kim Marcus, Wine Spectator, 93/100 (Apr 2013)

‘Exotic aromas of tropical fruit and honey tangerines introduce this intensely fruity yet elegantly structured spätlese. The palate is powerfully concentrated, all the while, being lifted by a spray of citrus acidity and crushed minerals. It's unabashedly sweet with fruit, yet finishes remarkably dry.’ - Anna Lee C. Iijima, Wine Enthusiast, 93/100 (Dec 2013)
