About this Item

2011 Tokaij Furmint Úrágya
3 (1 x 3) 750ml

István Szepsy is one of Hungary’s most important winemakers. His family has been making wine in Tokaji since the late 16th century and they share their last name with the man who developed the original Aszú technique. Their exceptional focus on quality results in a production of around 50,000 bottles per year from the estate’s 52 hectares of vines. István Szepsy was named Winemaker of the Year (Hungary) in 2001 and in 2013 was the second person in the world to receive the prestigious ‘Les Seigneurs du Vin’ award. István Szepsy Junior, 18th generation winemaker, continues the legacy, searching for new areas to expand in Tokaj.

Critics Ratings

‘From 50-year-old vines planted on stony red clay soil on the ridge of a hill, facing southeast and southwest. Very pure aromas of lemon, lime, grapefruit, minerals and herbs struck me as almost riesling-like. Penetrating and minerally, with enticing spicy high notes. Quite dry and vibrant but reticent and stony, even a bit austere; this will need time to show its underlying complexity.’ - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 90/100 (Jun 2014)
