About this Item

2011 Saint-Emilion
4 (1 x 4) 750ml

Château Pavie Macquin is named after the grandfather of the current owners: Albert Macquin (1852-1911), who Saint-Emilion has to thank for the use of grafted plants designed to save the vineyards devastated by phylloxera. Pavie Macquin was elevated to Premier Grand Cru Classe in 2006.

Critics Ratings

‘In so many vintages, Pavie-Macquin is a wine of total seduction. Not in 2011. Readers will find a powerful, tightly wound Saint-Émilion. Smoke, licorice, spice and dark fruit add to the wine's virile, imposing personality. I would prefer to cellar the 2011 for at least another few years, as it still needs time. Hot, dry weather in the spring led to a quick flowering, but then the second half of the growing season was much cooler. It is a vintage that is at once very ripe in its fruit profile, and yet the tannins have a firmness that demands cellaring.’ - Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 92+/100 (May 2020)

‘Black core. Aroma of roasted potato skins. Savoury and very dense. Rich, very dark. Extreme, sweet/sour. Bags of oak. Big, chewy tannins but they are not hard or aggressive. Powerful and packed to be unpacked. Chewy in the extreme. Dark and roasted. The polar opposite of subtle and elegant.’ - Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16.5/20 (Feb 2015)
