Notes

Born in Gujarat, India, contemporary artist Thakor Patel studied drawing and painting in the Bombay area before moving to Zimbabwe in 1980. His works, which are abstract and surreal in nature, feature geometric shapes and crisp lines; a clear influence of print on his style. In 2017, Patel immigrated to the USA.

In 2013, Patel was honoured with a retrospective exhibition at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe, Harare. He received a Rockefeller Foundation award for a residency at the Bellagio Centre in Italy in 2016. In 2017, he participated in the exhibition Decompounding Experiences at the Tsoko Gallery in Harare.
