Notes
'This artwork captures a time in the apartheid era when Tutu led his people as a priest, friend, and man of the people. I was very inspired by a quote that I read about ‘difference’ and that differences between people shouldn’t separate and alienate us, “We are different precisely in order to realize our need of one another”.' –Hlavutelo Ngobeni
Born in Thomo village, Limpopo, Hlavutelo Ngobeni was encouraged from a young age, particularly by her school teacher, to follow her passion for the arts. Ngobeni is currently doing workplace training in the pro-shop at Artist Proof Studio. Phillemon Hlungwani, a renowned artist and APS alumnus, has been an instrumental influence on the artist's printmaking.
Proceeds from the sale of this lot will go to the Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation.
