Young Guns | For the classicists and the geeks alike, an incredible collection
About the Session

What is a Young Gun?

A talented winemaker who pushes the boundaries, breaks the rules and creates cutting-edge wines with personality and energy. Young Guns either work, or have worked for notable estates, but also produce unique wines under their own labels. They are dynamic, working together in pushing the envelope and promoting brand SA. They are the winemakers who should be on your radar as they are making some of the most daring, innovative, and simply delicious wines in SA. They travel and taste extensively, drawing inspiration from the classics through to the more edgy, hip styles and techniques, from the profound and obscure wine regions of the world. And then they apply their own creative interpretations on home soil, often searching for unique vineyard sites, cultivars and old vines. The results are most often small in numbers and high in demand, selling out on release. They are the rising stars, the future icons and ultimately, tomorrow’s investment wines.

About this Item

2019 Mosi Harry Hartman
6 (1 x 6) 750ml

A truly collaborative project by self-confessed “wine-obsessed” friends. The team behind this fairly new brand are importer Marcel Hartman, graphic designer Sean Harrison and London businessman Simon Garnham. Their aim is to make small batches of exceptional wines and they currently work with a number of winemaking consultants who source fruit from various areas, making an ever-increasing and interesting list of wines.

This wine is made by the Harry Hartman winemaker in collaboration with Joseph Dhafana (Mosi label). Joseph Dhafana was the head sommelier at La Colombe for 7 years. Harryhartman Wines came in contact with Joseph in 2020 through La Colombe and the collaboration grew through a personal friendship with each other.

The funds raised will be donated to assist with expenses for the Blind Ambition team while travelling.

Tinashe Nyammudoka, Joseph Tongai Dhafana, Pardon Taguzu and Marvin Gwese are part of a wave of Zimbabweans who left their economically-hit homeland for a better life elsewhere. After their perilous journeys they arrive in South Africa, eventually get jobs in restaurants, gain interest in the intricacies of wine, become sommeliers, meet and bond with one another, and are encouraged to form the first-ever Zimbabwe team to compete in The World Wine Blind Tasting Championships—the Olympics of the wine world. Blind Ambition follows their ambitious path to their unlikely spot in this annual competition held in France and primarily made up of western European teams, where they must sample twelve different wines and guess the country, winery and vintage—a challenge for any oenologist. Their sampling skills take them a long way, but it is their connection to their country, underscored by the comments and encouragement of parents, grandparents and children they left back home that provide the motivation and backbone. An Olympian story that Bacchus would approve, Blind Ambition is an inspiring, robust look at four committed men facing tough competition with an undaunting vision and mission that goes beyond winning medals.
